For most people, Christmas time is a time to eat, drink, and be merry put on a few lbs. For those of you that want to prevent this, here are a few tips…
FOOD
when eating big dinners with family, friends whoever, eat your meat and vegetables first before your carbohydrates (potato, chips, bread etc). This will allow you to fill up on protein, healthy fat, vitamins and minerals before carbs, which are more likely to cause fat gain!
ALCOHOL
If you’re going to be drinking, stay away from beers, cider, wine etc. Stick with clear spirits with a diet mixer (vodka + diet coke, gin + diet tonic). These clear spirits contain less sugar and overall calories than other types of alcohol, theres 56 calories in a gin + diet tonic, 240 calories in a pint of strongbow, and 130 calories in a 175ml glass of white wine – do the maths.
SOCIALISING
Try to choose one of the two and stick with that for the day/night… alcohol or cheat meals, eating both, you will consume a crazy amounts of calories. If you’re going to be drinking, go with that. If you’re going to be eating junk food, stick with that. Don’t mix the two.
TRAINING
Obviously having time off from dieting, and training will have its effects. Throw alcohol on top of that and your physique will pay the price. Keeping up with training will help with keeping off fat, if you’re going to be drinking or eating junk try and get a heavy weights session in before hand this will deplete your glycogen stores, allowing some of the sugary carbs to be stored inside your muscle and not fat cells. It will also increase your metabolism and will help your body burn what you’re putting in to it.
Merry Christmas.
